US-89 from Kanab to junction of U-12/US-89
This byway, one of Utah's most popular drives, travels from Kanab on the south to Red Canyon in the north and ascends southern Utah's Grand Staircase
Nestled at the foot of the Vermillion Cliffs, Kanab is Utah's "Little Hollywood," where over 70 movies have been filmed. From Kanab, this byway follows US-89 through Three Lakes Canyon and the Vermillion Cliffs past several western movie locations. The road soon passes the turn-off to Coral Pink Sand Dunes State Park (fee required). Here a panoramic view unfolds of the White Cliffs and the majestic towers of Zion National Park
Next, the byway descends to the east fork of the Virgin River at Mt. Carmel Junction. The road winds through the green fields and orchards around the towns of Mt. Carmel, Orderville, and Glendale. A backdrop of yellow, red and white-banded cliffs are continually in view. Side roads here provde access into the western portion of Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument . North of Glendale, the highway leaves the canyon landscape and enters a forested mountain valley. The Pink Cliffs and formations reminiscent of Bryce Canyon
At Long Valley Junction, the byway descends the wide mountain valley of the Sevier River
